Happy Halloween

Fall is slowly creeping up on us. I decided to do a Happy Halloween step card using the file Happy Hauntings.

~Margaret~

May your joys be as deep as the ocean, your sorrows as light as its foam.

It was so much fun creating this 12x12 layout!  I just love this photo of my son running along the beach without a care in the world.  To me it just screams innocents and pure joy!

May your joys be as deep as the ocean, your sorrows as light as its foam

I used a 12x12 corrugated paper for the background.  Next, I layered an 11x11 background paper.  I layered strips of inked and distressed paper in a variety of sizes.  Within the layers I used a Lori Whitlock scalloped border from the sil store.  I also used burlap ribbon as some of my layers.  My photo is sized to 5”x7”.

To create this layout I used two files from Scrappydew Creations.  I used the Searching for Sand Dollars 2014 and Welcome Fall files.  The fence is from the Welcome Fall file and the rest is from the Searching for Sand Dollars.

For the awesome seagulls I inked the edges in a gray ink and then folded the wings up before gluing them onto my page to add some dimension.

The grass and sand are glued flat to my layout and then the fence is popped up on foam.

The sand dollars were inked in gray  and the large one was popped up on foam.

Back to School

Hey everyone!  I am a day early with my ScrappyDew design team project this week.  Tomorrow morning, bright and early, I will be on a park field watching hot air balloons get inflated and take off.  I have been doing this since the early 80’s.  Don’t get to the field each year, but always watch them from the house.  Now for this weeks project.

A few weeks back a new file was introduced.  It is called School 2014.  I have a friend that just loves to get mail.  This year he will be in 9th grade.  Gosh the 1st year of high school.  I had a feeling he would really like a surprise back to school card.

I used Recollections scraps for the boy and the actual card.  I also used Blackboard paper from Momenta for the inside.  I duplicated the school house and mirrored it.  Then welded both pieces together to create the card base.  On the inside I enlarged the notebook from the file to make it bigger so that I could have them be note cards.  So here is the final result…

The front.  I added the ‘high’ to school.

Here are the enlarged notebooks as cards.

I thought I would start my friend off with his first great report card!

I just love the way this special card turned out for my friend.  His mom told me, he loved it!  So my work is done (until Halloween that is).

So I’m going to let you in on a strange little secret of mine.  If I get to do an activity that is really special to me, I plan ahead and get an outfit together so I will look SUPER!  I am a big believer in shopping thrift stores.  I find a great many items that have been donated by a retail store that are brand new.  Then I snap them up at pennies on the dollar.  So this is my outfit for tomorrow morning.  I am going to be stunning! (giggle giggle giggle)

Brand new Erika athletic outfit with capri’s.  I paid $6.97

Last year, at the end of July til the Labor day weekend, I had a DOOZIE project going on. Here is the first post from last year.  This year is no different.  The first post of this MINI DOOZIE will be next weekend.  That is if I can keep from burning my fingers with the hot glue.  So for now, bright blessings, Jana.

"Nostalgia" Smash Book

Sometimes I love to go back on time.

Even though on 1964 I wasn´t even born, this movie and mostly this song are a treasured memory from my childhood.

So for this week project, I´m working on my “Nostalgia” smash book

I got some white printable sticker paper from Silhouette, and I wanted to try it out with some ScrappyDew´s files, cause their files have a great quality to work in print and cut.

First I printed the files with registration marks to make the print and cut process.

Once it was cut, I weed (clean) it to get my stickers.

Aren´t they lovely????

Next I embellish my smash book pages

Here is a closer look of the stickers. Look how detail are they.

To make this project I used Mary Poppins file from ScrappyDew´s files.

Soooooooo

Frankenstein Halloween Banner

Hello friends! Today’s Scrappydew design team project is a Frankenstein Halloween Banner. I used the Franky’s Halloween file from Scrappydew. http://scrappydew.cartloom.com/shop/item/66670

Gelly roll pens are my favorite for accenting the eyes.

I chalked the edges to give it the slight worn out effect.

The tiles I used for the banner are rounded squares that I cut at 5 inches. The top layer tiles are cut at 4 inches

I punched holes in the pieces to string ribbon through each piece.

I used 1/8 inch satin ribbon. I like this stringing technique because it allows you to space each tile as far apart from the next as I want.

Here is the finished banner. I can’t wait to create many more Halloween projects. Scrappydew has a ton of cute designs to choose from.

Thanks for stopping by!!

A Deployment Wish.....

Today, I’m sharing a 12x12 layout I created for a photo that I’ve been holding onto for a few years now. I have a photo of my daughter who was 2 years old at the time making a wish on a dandelion during my husband’s year long deployment.  What she had wished for broke my heart! She wished for her daddy to come home. :( Knowing we were only a couple weeks into the year long deployment I knew right then and there this deployment was going to have a bigger impact on her then what I had anticipated.  Anyways, when I saw the "Wishflowers 2014" from Scrappydew Creations I knew this was exactly how I wanted to document that moment.

The little girl measures 6” and I duplicated the dandelions and added them to the top of the layout.  I inked everything in either gray or white ink. The dandelions were inked in gray ink and then painted with Diamond Stickles.  I love how they turned out! The photo corners and tag came from the silhouette store.

No Soliciting

It’s Saturday again and I have a confession to make.  I do not always love how a project turns out.  In fact, I recently tore up a project but kept the piece that I liked.  If I keep what I like, I will usually use it on another project. I have a really cute little box that I have bits and pieces of cards and other projects that have gone by the wayside.

This weeks project uses one of those bits.  I posted a little orange purse project a few weeks ago.

Look at the edges.  Nothing would stick to that darned orange glitter paper!

So I tore it all apart and kept the fairy.  The fairy pattern is the Flower Fairy Princess 2014.  She is cute as a bugs ear and I just knew I could use her sometime soon.

On my front door I have a No Soliciting sign that is very creative.  It was getting very faded and I just needed to make a new one.  So I got out some Recollections paper and cut out what I wanted the sign to say and backed it with a bright color (I used the paper I cut the letters out of like a stencil).

Next I dug out my Purple Cows Laminator and sealed the sign up.  After some finagling I got the sign the way I liked it.  So here is the new and improved Flower Fairy 2014.

Does this help with the solicitors?  In a way, some leave the porch and don’t knock.  But just this week I had one knock and I answered.  The young man just wanted to say he “LOVED MY SIGN!!!!”

That’s it for this week.  Next week I will have a back to school card that will knock your socks off!

Bright blessings, Jana

Granny's Kitchen

Hello friends!!!

Today in Mother´s Day in Costa Rica, so this post is dedicated to my mom, Lidiette, known by my children and nieces as “Tita”.

My mom loves to cook, she is always searching and testing new recipes for us.
For me there is not better pleasure that eat what she cooks. Even the simplest meals become great when are done by her.

Today I chose not to give her the traditional Mother´s Day card.
Instead of that I made some magnets for her fridge.

The sign says: “Granny´s Kitchen”.

The lovely cow

The funny ping

The sweet teddy bear

To make my magnets, I used “Three Little Chefs” a ScrappyDew´s cutting file that you can find as a part of THE VAULT files.
After gluing and shading all the pieces, I applied a Modge Podge coat to protect the cardstock. When the Modge Podge dries, you can even clean the magnets without any risk.

Happy Mother´s Day to my mom and to all costarican moms.

Thanks for stopping by!!!!

Boys Never Grow Up!

Hello again, it’s Saturday.  I have another guy birthday card to share today.   One of our employees, Duane, has a birthday 5 days after hubbys.  So I decided to make him a card in a box also.

Now Duane is a racing freak.  Besides working in a machine shop, he races slot cars, races his actual Monte Carlo race car at the Woodburn drag strip and has an obsession with Hot Wheels.  They are tacked up in the office at the shop and all over his home.

You can just imagine how excited I was when ScrappyDew came out with the file Hot Wheels 2014.  I knew right then I had to use this file for Duane!  The card is constructed with scraps of Recollections paper and some of DCWV glitter stack scraps.  (i swear i do use pretty paper for things, really!)  I also added some stickers from EK Sucess.  So here is my creation…

I put flames all around the outside

The whole card

I made this side panel to match his actual race car

The envelope

I have to say, every once in a while I suprise myself by how well a creation comes together.  I just love this card.  Duane was beside himself.  He loved the card and I think he loved his present also!

The apple pie I made Duane as a birthday present

That’s it for this week.  I have a back to school card to share for next Saturday.  So for now…

Bright blessings, Jana

Cherry Fairy Mini Album

Have you seen the new FRUITY DIVAS SET, the new expansion pack for the Scrapfactory????

Aren´t they a cuttie???

In this new expansion pack, you get

7 Hairstyles
7 New Outfits
7 Shoe Accessories

For this week project I used the mix and match feature of the Scrapfactory and made a lovely Cherry Fairy Minialbum for a babygirl.

To make the minialbum I used Wings 4 of the FAIRIES expansion pack and cut it in the middle with the knife tool of the Silhouette Studio Software.

For the inside pages of the minialbum, I just used the shade of the wings.

To make the Cherry Fairy, I mix/match Fruity Divas and Fairies expansion pack:

I used open toes body, Cherry hair style and Cherry outfit from the Fruity Divas; and Wings 2 of the Fairies set.
