Let Freedom Ring!

My golly gracious, where has the time flown?  Can you believe that it is 6 days until the big 4th of July, Independence Day celebration?  Here in my little burg, we don’t have a celebration.  But, the neighboring communities have some sis-boom-bah fireworks and concerts.

My girls are having a small get together with friends and I wanted them to have something to decorate their door with.  I selected ScrappyDew’s July 4th 2013 file.  It’s a rather large sign, 12x22, and this file has many elements to choose from.  Here are the lyrics:

Uncle Sam and Girl—Recollections paper scraps

Phrases & fireworks—Recollections paper scraps, Petaloo glitter stack and DCWV glitter stack

Background paper—Karen Foster Design Patriotic Collage

I re-sized Uncle Sam and the girl to be ~6 inches tall.  (lot easier to piece together if pieces are larger) (***just a note, resize the entire file at the same time.  then your proportions will not be screwed up***)  Then let your creativity shine through!  Sure 4th of July is associated with the good ole red, white and blue.  But if you look I snuck in pretty purple and gold also.

So here are some pics and close-ups.

this is the inside of my front door

I gave each one of the figures a little bit of personality with there smiles.  The background paper really ties the whole sign together.

So from my neck of the woods to yours, Happy 4th of July.

Bright blessings, Jana

Happily Ever After

For this week ScrappyDew project, I wanted to make a wedding card using "KNIGHTS" cutting file.

But then I realice that I had a problem:

The higher tower of the castle must have 5.5 inches high, so, to keep proportions, I have to work the dolls couple in a very small format and is not easy if you are doing  paper piecing.

So I had an idea: Use “print and cut”

The boy is 1.2 inches high, the girl 1 inch.

To make all the card, I used the “drag and drop” feature of Studio software and this gorgeous digital paper collection

Thanks for stopping by!!!

Sunshine and Smiles Sent Your Way

Today’s a sad day.  It is my last day as a guest designer with ScrappyDew.  I have enjoyed this group of designers so very much and appreciate their patients during my Internet issues.  I would love to at anytime come play again!!

Good news is…. just because it’s my last day with this amazing design team, it’s certainly not the last you’ll be seeing of ScrappyDew projects, I can’t get enough of these characters.

My project today is a summer activity for kiddos.

Recipe:

The adorable little girl is from the Chalk the Walk Pattern file at ScrappyDew.com

Teal and white backgrounds are from Jaded Blossom’s die set to create a card to send off this fun summer gift.

and the sentiment is also from Jaded Blossom’s Simply Saying’s 2 set

I used my usual chalks for added design and used my purple star jelly roll pen for the stitches.

Thanks again Michelle and team, you guys are great!!

Down by the Seaside

Good morning! Today I’m sharing a 12x12 layout I made using theLighthouse 2013 from Scrappydew Creations.

The lighthouse measures just about 6”. I got the font from dafont.com and it’s called Motion Picture.

The flowers are handmade and I colored them using Lindy’s Stamp Gang Nantucket Pearls Starburst sprays.  I love, love, love this stuff!

The wooden compass embellishment is by Kaisercraft.

Purse Note Card Set

Today I have a really cute purse note card holder for you.  Now I didn’t design the purse.  I found the pattern over at the Team KNK forum.  This was posted by Deb M.  It is such a cute idea I had to give it a try.

But first, here are the project lyrics:

Fairy Flower Princess
Recollections paper in tan, bright orange, hot pink, lime green
Petaloo purple glitter sheets
Doodlebug Design Tangerine chevron orange glitter paper
DCWV Pocketful of Posies designer stack
K&Co. Embossed Specialty Papers

The first thing I did was make this project bigger.  The original is for 4.25 by 4.25 cards and I wanted A2.  (i think this is where i started having problems, my dimensions are off)  So I cut out all of my pieces and made the inside card holders.

Time to put this purse together.  The orange glitter paper has what is called a sugar coating.  Not one of all the glues I had would actually stick.
orange paper on reverse

OK, now what to do…(only had bought 2 sheets of this dang blasted stuff thank goodness)  Well, I went out to the garage and rummaged through the sand paper.  Found some fine grit and sanded all of the edges to get this sugar krap off.  Finally able with the help of Mr. Elmer to glue down the purple edges.  (had to sand off each and every area that I wanted to glue, big pain)

The rest of the purse went together pretty well.  Until I got to the placement of the enlarged pockets.  They just would line up right.  Finally got it to work.  Purse done and now on to the note cards.  Nothing really fancy, just nice every day cards.  BUT…I did find some tape that is double sided with a waxed paper backing that I put on the envelopes.  I really didn’t like sending out a project that the recipient had to tape the envelope closed.

So here are the final project pics.

So I am finished with this project.  Now some important news.  I will be (in the coming weeks) re-designing the blog and adding some new places to see and read about rhapsodyonpaper.  It’s time and I really need to add social media buttons for everyone.  Does anyone have any suggestions?  Leave a comment and let me know.  Who knows, I just might mention you in a post.

Take care everyone, bright blessings, Jana

Where Are My Keys??

No one likes to go into surgery or be in at hospital and nothing is worse than being put under for surgery and putting all of your trust into a Doctor. But they are all professionals and would never put you at risk…so I had to make a card for that occasion. A card to ease someone who is anxious about going into surgery:

So for this card I used my CRICUT EXPLORE and the MEDICAL PALZ FILE from Scrappy Dew. I found an amazing paper pack by DCWV called MODERN MEADOW that matched the color of the scrubs just perfect. I used this paper and my favorite INK with DAUBERS. For his mask i used one of y favorite new materials DCWV GUAZE PAPER.

I used 3D FOAM DOTS to raise up the labels under the Dr. and the Dr. himself form the card.

For the Dr. glasses I used SILVER MARKERS to give his glasses the extra shine that he will need to operate. I also used this on his operating knife. Don’t worry I also sterilized it.  for his shoes I used INK with DAUBERS. I also took the CRICUT EXPLORE PENS and used the fine point teal pen and made shoelaces on his shoes. For the Dot in his eyes I use a WHITE PEN versus cutting it out in white paper which is very very small.

Using my Design Space Subscription I found this amazing label to use for my sentiment from the label group. Using the CRICUT EXPLORE PENS and CRICUT EXPLORE I used the amazing write than cut feature to make this cute and funny sentiment

“Surgery Went Great Now Where Are My Keys?”

Thanks for checking out today’s Kreation!

Fair Play

Hello dear friends!!!

Yesterday was the begining of the FIFA World Cup

Perfect timing to make a “Fair Play” card

Fair Play “represents the positive benefits of playing by the rules, usingo common sense and respecting fellow players, referees, opponents and fans.”

The multiple color shirt represents all World countries that are getting together at the World Cup.

To make this card, I used the new expansion pack for the Scrapfactory

This new expansion pack provides different sports outfits

Also a lot of accesories

And even titles

To make my little soccer player, I used “mix and match” feature of the Scrapfactory and chose:

-Body 1 no open toes

-Jimmy hair style

-Soccer Uniform for the outfit

Don´t you think we need to have “fair play” even in life???

Tree House Card

Today I made a simple little card using the Tree House Fun pattern.

I can see using this pattern for some more fun designs in the future.

Recipe:

Of course the Tree House Fun pattern :)

I copied the base of the tree and mirrored the duplicate, then welded it to the original to form a card base.

I scored the tree down the center and ta da! a card was made.  Ha

I ran the bark of the tree and the seat of the swing through my cuttlebug in the wood grain folder.

I also ran the leaves of the tree through my cuttlebug using a curly cue folder.

I used ink to go over the dimensions on the leaves and the bark to add more color.

The rope was cut out on tan paper and then dabbed with ink to give it a frayed effect.

I chalked the edges of the little girl and colored her hair with a garnet atyou spika pen.

I topped her beauty off with gems in her bows and across the front of her dress.

The whole card came together using the Jaded Blossom die and sentiment.

I sure hope you like her as much as I do.

I may even keep this one instead of giving it away.

~Enjoy!~

China Doll Beauty

Hi Everyone!! Ken here with Ken’s Kreations. So the funny thing about today’s project was all based around a paper pad. You know when you go to your favorite craft store and a new paper pad is in stock and you just have to HAVE it. Well I found that paper pad, however due to it’s specific theme, I do not find a day to day use for this beautiful paper. So I challenged myself to create something and lucky for me ScrappyDew had the perfect file for me. Here is What I came up with:

So this whole project was based around the DCWV FAR EAST PAPER STACK. I feel in love with this paper stack as soon as I saw it. However as I said it was hard for me to find use for this elegant paper in my everyday use. Fortunately for me Scrappy Dew had the perfect file for this paper stack. The file is called KONNICHIWA DOLLS. It features 3 beautiful dolls, one holding an umbrella. Well I knew this would be the base for my card. I cut the doll using my CRICUT EXPLORE at 5.5 inches tall. I know I sound like a broken record, but anytime I can reduce my time spending on the “work” behind my project I will. That is why I turn to my CRICUT EXPLORE so much when working with layered images since it takes the work out of the equation for me. I inked all my edges using DEW DROP INK and one of my favorite tools, INK DAUBERS. I used the PAGODA CARTRIDGE for the Japanese folding screen and the beauty sentiment.

I wanted to make sure that the screen actually folded so I used 3D FOAM DOTS to raise the middle of the screen up to give the look that the screen was folded in towards the china doll. I also took 3D FOAM DOTS to raise the “BEAUTY” sentiment.

One of the final touches I made was to take BLACK AND WHITE ENAMEL ACCENTS to highlight the tree on the screen and the letters on “Beauty”

Thanks for taking a look at today’s keratin. Come back tomorrow to see what Kreation I come up with next.
